Howdy!
I’m Asa Kittner, an illustrator and graphic designer from the San Francisco Bay Area creating vibrant and thoughtful visual storytelling. My work blends bright colors, symbolism, and conceptual thinking, to communicate ideas that inspire and connect. I received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration from California College of the Arts, where I honed my technical and narrative skills.
In my early days, I was influenced by the rich visuals of skateboarding, graffiti, music, and tattoo art. These cultures still influence my work today. More recently, some of my inspirations include the dreamlike qualities of surrealism and the innovative approaches of modern advertising and design of the 20th century. Beyond art and culture, I find inspiration in everyday life and the natural world, by paying attention to the unexpected subtleties all around us.
My skill set in illustration and design is versatile, making my work dynamic and wide ranging. My portfolio includes intricately rendered conceptual illustrations to more stylized vector graphics. I like to use vivid color combinations and layered textures to add mood and depth to my work. I often use symbolism and whimsical subject matter to help visually communicate concepts in fun and unexpected ways. Additionally, I have experience with typography, layout, logos, and icons. My practice includes work fit for editorial and conceptual illustration, branding and packaging, print, digital, and more.
I’d love to do more projects for interesting brands, publications, and any other exciting ideas that come along. I am passionate about using visual storytelling to energize and uplift others. When I’m not creating, you can find me hiking local trails, flipping through old design books, or collecting weird trinkets.
